Registering and importing dental equipment in Egypt

Medical devices in Egypt are regulated by the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) under Law 151 of 2019, through its Central Administration for Medical Devices. A device must be registered before it is imported for sale, the registration is filed on the EDA's MeDevice portal by an Egyptian registration holder — a licensed importer or an EDA-licensed scientific office — and it belongs to that holder: a foreign manufacturer cannot file directly and registrations are not transferred between holders. Devices are classed I, IIa, IIb and III on the European model; a dental treatment unit is generally Class IIa, which your holder confirms on filing. Registrations are valid for ten years, import approvals for one year, and a normal review takes several months.

The manufacturer's file is the familiar one — ISO 13485 and CE certificates, a Certificate of Free Sale, the declaration of conformity, the technical file and labels — legalised for Egypt and issued against the model numbers on your order. Labelling may be in Arabic or English. Devices from the EU, US, Canada, Australia and Japan get a lighter review; for Chinese-made devices in Class IIa the standard track applies, and the EDA has simplified several document rules in 2026. Only brand-new devices may be imported.

Customs. The importer is entered in the Importers Register with GOEIC. Every sea and air shipment to Egypt must be pre-registered on the Nafeza single window to obtain an ACID number before it leaves China — the exporter uploads the documents on CargoX, and the ACID must appear on the invoice, packing list and bill of lading, or the cargo is turned back. VAT on medical devices was cut to 5% in July 2026; duty is assessed on the customs value and your broker confirms the tariff line before you fix a resale price.

Power, air and water in an Egyptian clinic

Egypt's mains supply is 230 V at 50 Hz with Type C and F (European) sockets, so the standard 220 V / 50 Hz version of our chairs and compressors is the right one — the same version that runs across the Middle East, Africa and Europe. The load-shedding of 2023–2024 ended in September 2024, and the government reported no scheduled cuts in the summers of 2025 and 2026. Practical points:

• A stabiliser or UPS on the chair's control unit remains cheap insurance against surges.
• Heat and dust. Compressors run hotter in a Cairo summer; a ventilated, dust-free cabinet and a filter on the clinic's maintenance list keep them within their rating.
• Oil-free compressors need no oil changes, and a dryer keeps handpiece air dry in Alexandria's humidity.

Water: the dental unit runs on filtered water or a bottle-fed system and the autoclave on distilled water — a 4-litre distiller covers a single-chair practice.

Shipping from Foshan to Alexandria, Port Said and Ain Sokhna

Our factory is in Foshan, an hour from the container ports of Guangzhou (Nansha) and Shenzhen. Egypt sits on the route between Asia and Europe, so services are frequent: about 20–30 days port to port on direct services to Alexandria / El Dekheila or Port Said, around 35 days via transhipment. Ain Sokhna on the Gulf of Suez is the closest port to Cairo — about 120 kilometres — and avoids the Suez Canal transit for Asian cargo; tell us which port your clearing agent works from and we book accordingly.

A single chair or a small first order goes as LCL (shared container); a first order for resale is usually a 20 ft container. The packing data we send with every quotation lists how many chairs and equipment combinations fit in a 20 ft and a 40 ft container. Small items — handpieces, curing lights, cameras — can travel by air to Cairo in about a week, with the same ACID pre-registration.

We quote FOB Guangzhou or Shenzhen for dealers with their own forwarder, or delivered to the Egyptian port when you prefer one price that includes the sea freight. Payment is by T/T or L/C; lead time is confirmed on the proforma invoice and sample units ship first.

Buying as a clinic or as a dealer

Clinics. Yes, we sell single units directly — one chair for a new practice, a second chair for a growing clinic, or a replacement for an old unit. In Egypt the device must be registered and imported through an Egyptian holder, so we either introduce you to our distributor, who holds the registrations and installs, or work with the licensed importer you nominate and support your technician by video during the first installation.

Dealers and scientific offices. Egyptian dealers work with us under the distributor programme: factory-direct pricing tiered by quantity, the EDA document pack, marketing files, remote technical training and a spare-parts kit with the first container. Territory exclusivity is discussed once a partner meets an annual commitment. Most partnerships begin with a trial of one to a few units, then a first container once the chairs are registered and installed.
