Registering and importing dental equipment in the Philippines

Dental chairs and dental units are medical devices under the FDA Philippines (Center for Device Regulation, Radiation Health and Research) and follow the ASEAN-harmonised rules of Administrative Order 2018-0002. The path depends on risk class: Class A devices receive a Certificate of Medical Device Notification (CMDN), Class B to D a Certificate of Medical Device Registration (CMDR); both are valid for five years. Only a Philippine company holding an FDA Licence to Operate as importer or distributor can apply, so the certificate belongs to your licence holder. Since December 2025 initial CMDN applications are filed on the FDA eServices portal.

The manufacturer's part of the file is a technical dossier in the ASEAN CSDT format, ISO 13485 and CE certificates, a Free Sale certificate, labelling and instructions. Because both China and the Philippines are members of the Hague Apostille Convention, our documents are apostilled in China rather than consular-legalised, which saves weeks. Which class a specific chair configuration falls into is confirmed by the FDA on application; your licence holder will know from previous filings.

Customs. Chairs are declared under the dentists' chairs and dental units tariff lines, with the ACFTA Form E certificate of origin for preferential duty on Chinese-origin goods, and 12% VAT on the landed value. Power, air and water in a Philippine clinic

The Philippine grid runs at 220 V and 60 Hz with Type A, B and C sockets — the voltage of Europe with the frequency of the Americas. That combination is why we ask for the country before quoting: the chair is supplied in its 220 V version, but the compressor motor must be built for 60 Hz — a 50 Hz motor run on 60 Hz turns faster than it was designed for and wears sooner. Order the 220 V / 60 Hz version and check that it is written on the proforma invoice.

Supply is generally stable in Metro Manila, but the Luzon and Visayas grids still issue red alerts in the hot months — May 2026 saw rotating brownouts across both — and provincial clinics see more of them. Practical points:

• Put the chair's control unit on an AVR or UPS. Brown-outs and the surge when power returns are the usual cause of control-board damage.
• Size any backup for the compressor. The chair draws little; the compressor decides whether a UPS or small generator copes. Ask us for its running and starting current.
• Oil-free compressors suit the climate — no oil changes — and a dryer keeps handpiece air dry in year-round humidity.

Water: the dental unit runs on filtered water or a bottle-fed system; the autoclave on distilled water — a 4-litre distiller covers a single-chair practice.

Shipping from Foshan to Manila, Cebu or Davao

Our factory is in Foshan, an hour from the container ports of Guangzhou (Nansha) and Shenzhen, and the Philippines is one of our shortest sea legs: about 7–15 days port to port to Manila's MICT or South Harbor, similar to Cebu, and longer to Davao, which is usually served by transhipment. Direct services from Shenzhen run about a week.

A single chair or a small first order goes as LCL (shared container) and arrives within roughly two weeks of sailing; a first order for resale is usually a 20 ft container. The packing data we send with every quotation lists how many chairs and equipment combinations fit in a 20 ft and a 40 ft container. Small items — handpieces, curing lights, cameras — can travel by air to Manila in a few days.

We quote FOB Guangzhou or Shenzhen for dealers with their own forwarder, or delivered to Manila or Cebu when you prefer one price that includes the sea freight. Payment is by T/T or L/C; lead time is confirmed on the proforma invoice and sample units ship first.

Buying as a clinic or as a dealer

Clinics. Yes, we sell single units directly — one chair for a new practice, or a replacement for an old unit. In the Philippines we will usually introduce you to our distributor, who holds the licence and installs; where you prefer to import yourself, we support your technician by video during the first installation and supply the FDA documents to your licence holder.

Dealers. Philippine dealers work with us under the distributor programme: factory-direct pricing tiered by quantity, the FDA document pack, marketing files, remote technical training and a spare-parts kit with the first container. Territory exclusivity is discussed once a partner meets an annual commitment. Most partnerships begin with a trial of one to a few units, then a first container once the chairs are registered and installed — and with a one-to-two-week sea leg, restocking is quick.
